Homework
Homework
Homework in third grade should take you from 20-45 minutes nightly. There should be time throughout the day for students to accomplish most of their work. Homework is due the following day, unless otherwise noted.
Your student will use a planner in third grade. This is a great tool to help students become organized and plan their time - a skill that will last a lifetime! Please look over and sign the assignment book nightly assuring the student has finished their homework.
Reading
Homework in reading will consist of 20 minutes of reading per night. There will be a log space at the bottom of the planner page per dayto keep track of minutes read each night. The log will be due once a week. This should not be a chore, but an enjoyable time for students and parents. Please read with your child, take turns, discuss characters, predictions, problems and solutions, etc. This can be a very rewarding experience to learn new vocabulary and develop great reading relationships between you and your child.
If you need any ideas for strategies to help your child become a better reader, please let me know.
Math
Math fact fluency practice will always be a top priority. The faster we can recall math facts the more time we can focus on different math concepts and other problem solving skills.
